The argument

Inside this module.

We explore modern medical practices with an emphasis on the pharmaceutical industry, including the largely unknown origins of the medical establishment and the immense power it wields over governments. We contrast this with time-honoured holistic approaches to health, and examine the facts that pharmaceutical interests would prefer remain buried.

What you’ll walk away with

  • We contrast this with time-honoured holistic approaches to health, and examine the facts that pharmaceutical interests would prefer remain buried.

Questions we’ll explore

The questions a thoughtful student asks — and the questions this module insists they ask.

  1. i.

How did one paradigm of medicine come to dominate the West, and what did it displace?

  2. ii.

Why did the Flexner Report of 1910 matter so much?

  3. iii.

What is incentivised inside a pharmaceutical company, and what is not?

  4. iv.

Where does the line between 'alternative' and 'suppressed' actually run?

  5. v.

What might a synthesis of the two traditions look like, in practice, for a family?
